David Ledsam

Back in the 1980s David discovered the world of traditional music, and started a folk music instrument and sheet music supply business. His first supplier was Bernard Overton, the inventor and maker of the modern Low Whistle. Through Bernard he met Finbar Fury and a host of talented traditional Irish musicians. This led to meeting Steáfán Hannigan, with whom he played in a band at the end of the 1980s. Steáfán played the Low Whistle professionally, and David has tested more Low Whistles than he cares to mention for tuning and playability. Not all were in tune!

Towards the end of the 1990s he decided to put together a Low Whistle method and asked Steáfán to be a co-author. 20 years and over 20,000 copies later David has produced the second, this time A4, edition.

David is also a semi-pro Double Bass and Concertina player, a folk Cello player, and can be seen around the UK folk festival scene with the contra band, Contrasaurus, and Balfolk band, Fugace, playing for Rapper Sword dance with Stone Monkey, or in a session.

He has been known to play the Low Whistle very occasionally, and still owns one of the last instruments made by Bernard Overton.
