Erin Mansfield

•AERYN• [she/her] is an English musician and poet best known for blending together body percussion, vocals, and meandering whistle lines; built on a BossRC505 loop-station. She infuses ethereal and delicate melodies, with a throat punch of free-verse poetry infused with folk idioms and a touch of rebellion. ·AERYN·’s music is heavily influenced by folk traditions, balancing virtuosity with the down-to-earth authenticity of acoustic instruments, including low whistles, bouzouki and banjo; though she breathes new life into them with not so subtle use of effects pedals and non-standard methods of playing.

April 2024 saw the release of Erin’s debut record, her first undertaking under the alias ·AERYN·. It represents the result of years of labour, life experience, and self-exploration. She had initially intended for the album to be one of quiet and understated beauty, though after listening to it herself, has to respectfully disagree.

Othala was recorded over the Winter of 2023/24 by Andy Thomas-Emans and James Kerry of Studio One, in the basement of Olby’s Soul Cafe - A restaurant-come-community hub by day, and the music venue of wonders by night. Othala’s birth came alongside the gently violent hum of Dreamland, and the beautiful eyesore of wind farms on the horizon. ·AERYN· : “In short, I’m a silly person with big dreams of revolution but with very little in the way of gumption to commit the crimes necessary. So instead, I make music and have anxiety. I have no accolades to shout about, not that I’d care to, so I won’t”.
