Finbar Furey

Finbar Furey was born in 1946 into a musical Irish Traveller family. His father Ted started him on whistle and Uilleann Pipes at a young age. By his teens he had won several All-Ireland medals.

From the mid 1960s, Finbar and his brother Eddie toured extensively with the Clancy Brothers going on to work as a duo and then form the Furey's where he fronted the band for almost 30 years.

He has had an acting career working in films and on TV. He continues to write and record music the latest being in 2023 where he released the album "Moments in Time" including a collection of his own compositions along with traditional songs.

His Low Whistle journey started whilst living in Coventry in the English Midlands. The story of his meeting with the late Bernard Overton is told in the Low Whistle Book.

He has an enduring love of golf!
